"Just a quick email to thank you Kim and your team at Shaw's for the work you did, which contributed to a very successful Freedom of the Borough presentation to G Company, 7 Battalion, The Rifles on 23 June 2012.
This was the first time in the history of the London Borough of Newham that the Freedom has been granted to a Regiment... In planning for this ceremony top of the list, as always, was to place an order with Shaw's to produce the Freedom Scroll, silver casket and entry into our Freedom Roll. The order was placed due to our long association with you and in the confident knowledge that you were able to deliver what was required to your usual very high level of quality. On this occasion, you were particularly patient with me - it was necessary to change the date of the ceremony due to soldiers from the Regiment being posted in Afghanistan. In addition, you were able to meet my request for a framed duplicate copy of the scroll at very short notice. The main scroll and casket were delivered to the Regimental HQ/Museum, with the framed copy remaining at G Company's Barracks located with our Borough.
For the majority of people who attended the ceremony, the key focus was to see the soldiers marching through the streets of Newham. However, the key focus for the soldiers themselves was in fact the illuminated scroll - not just the words contained within the resolution, but in the way the scroll had been designed and presented. Immediately following the ceremony we held a reception in honour of the soldiers at which the scrolls and Freedom Book were left on display and almost every soldier took time to view these."
